Coffee El Amanecer overview
Coffee growing area
El Amanecer coffee comes from the Finca Piaya Cayana by Eliécer and María Eugenia Ángel. The finca is located in Obando, San Agustín in the south of Huila in Colombia. In total, around 12% of Colombian coffee comes from the mountains of Huila. Many people consider the area to be the best coffee growing area in the country as the coffees are often fruity and acidic.
Finca Piaya Cayana not only grows one type of coffee, but currently a total of five. The El Amanecer coffee is also a blend, ie we mix the typical regional coffee beans Bourbon Rosado and Caturra in a certain ratio so that the coffee gets its unmistakable delicious taste and the best of both types of coffee comes into play.
Coffee harvest
After cultivation, the coffee is harvested by hand on the finca. Harvesting by hand is common in Colombia. On the one hand, the quality is higher because only ripe cherries are picked. On the other hand, machine harvesting of coffee (as in Brazil, for example) is not possible in Colombia, as many coffee farms are located in the mountains and the mountainous profile of the country does not allow machine harvesting of coffee.
At Finca Playa Cayana there is a main coffee harvest between October and December and a smaller secondary harvest in June.
Coffee drying type
After the harvest, the coffee is dried. This is one of the main reasons why El Amanecer coffee retains so much of its natural sweetness: The coffee is prepared using the honey method (German: semi-dry). With this special drying method, the coffee beans are separated from the cherry, but unlike in wet processing, they are not washed afterwards. In this way, part of the pulp will stick to the coffee bean while it is being dried. This type of drying is more complex, since the beans have to be turned regularly manually and the pulp remains increase the risk of excessive / involuntary fermentation, for example. If the process is carried out cleanly and of high quality, the result is a complex coffee that contains additional notes of the sweetness of the pulp, which can then be found in an excellent filter coffee, for example.
Coffee export
The coffee beans dry on the finca in 7 to 12 days, depending on the climate. After drying, the coffee beans rest for a while before they are brought to a licensed Trilladora, where the silver skin is separated from the coffee and the coffee is packed in GrainPro bags ready for export.
Roasting coffee
For the coffee we have developed a special roasting process with our partners, in which the drying and the character of the coffee come into their own.
After roasting, we pack the coffee by hand so that it can be sent to your home fresh and quality assured. We guarantee that - we do not deliver any coffee that was roasted more than 12 weeks ago.

Coffee delicado overview
Coffee growing area
The Delicado coffee comes from Finca El Higueron by the Saavedra family. The finca is located in La Plata in the center of the state of Huila in Colombia. While the climate in San Agustín is slightly cooler and rainier, the climate in the La Plata region is characterized by more constant heat.
Finca El Higeron doesn't just grow one type of coffee either. In addition to coffee, other fruits such as bananas, yuca, platanos and cocoa are grown. The growing areas of all fruits are mixed so that the trees complement each other and provide the shade that is so important for coffee cultivation. In the heart of the finca lies a hectare of untouched nature with a waterfall and natural vegetation. This piece of land was deliberately not used by the family for the cultivation of coffee, as it serves as compensation for the agricultural use of the surrounding soil and thus benefits the long-term sustainability of the finca. Finca El Higueron officially bears the Rainforest seal.
The coffee Delicado is also a blend. Here we use the coffee beans Castillo, Typica and Colombia. The Colombia variety is a special variety of coffee that was developed and is widespread in Colombia.
Harvest coffee
After the cultivation, the coffee is harvested by hand on the finca and then gathered. At Finca El Higueron there are also two harvest times for coffee - the main coffee harvest times in summer and a smaller, secondary harvest in winter.
Type of drying and export of coffee
After the harvest, the coffee is dried. In contrast to El Amanecer, the Delicado coffee is prepared wet so that it has a very clean, round character. The coffee beans dry here between seven and twelve days. After the rest period, they are collected and then brought to a licensed Trilladora so that the silver skin is removed. Then this coffee is also packed in GrainPro bags ready for export.
